Seismic Interpretation of the Cook Structure, ATP-259P, Cooper-Eromanga Basin

Andrew McMahon - Bachelor of Applied Science (Geoph) 4th Year Project

The Cooper-Eromanga Basin has been a productive oil and gas area ever since the fi rst discovery of oil in the 1960's. This project focuses on the northern portion of the permit area ATP-259P, namely the Cook Structure. This is a NW-SE trending anticlinal feature located within the Aquitane 'B' Block. The sequences which are being investigated include an unconformity near basement, the Doonmulla Member, t he Birkhead Formation and the Cadna-Owie Formation. The pre-Permian basement, Bir khead and Cadna-Owie are being interpreted as test cases to investigate the variou s techniques that are carried out during the process of seismic interpretation. T he Doonmulla Member has been chosen to examine the pinchout of the Triassic, which is thought to affect the migration of hydrocarbons from its source in the Permian to reservoir rocks of the Jurassic.
