Research in Applied Geophysics at UQ

CURRENT RESEARCH

Multicomponent Seismology
Application of multi-component seismic wavefield separation techniques in both the exploration and reservoir geophysics environments. Parametric wavefield separation algorithms are currently under investigation, with application to synthetic, VSP, land 2D, and marine OBC data.

Multiple Attenuation
Investigation of prestack multiple attenuation based on generalised linear inversion using scattering matrix, reflectivity, and wave-equation theory.

Sub-Basalt Imaging
Investigation of the propagation of seismic waves in basalt-covered regions using reflectivity and finite-difference foward modelling techniques.

Ground Penetrating Radar
Demonstration of seismic processing techniques to ground penetrating radar data from the Burdekin River, North Queensland. The subsequent geological interpretation to be compared to previous work in the same area.

Coal Seismic Resolution
Investigation of spatial and lateral resolution of coal seismic using numerical modelling techniques.

Non-Random Reflectivity and Deconvolution
Investigation of the effect of non-random reflectivity behaviour on standard predictive deconvolution algorithms, and the application of specially formulated deconvolution methods to non-random reflectivity sequences.

Environmental Geophysics
Application of the magnetic and resistivity methods in characterising landfill sites in and around Brisbane.
